Triple Booting

I missed this video when it was on digg.com, being able to triple boot Windows, Linux and Mac OSX gives you the best of all three worlds.

Its done with virtualisation using software called parallels and then combined with virtuedesktops to create the cube effect. Its also slated to be included in the next release of parallels as mentioned here.

Once Leopard is released and virtualisation becomes more popular I can see this becoming a common thing on macs.
Just one press of the button and you can switch to another OS desktop whilst retaining your open windows and files on another. Much better than the bootcamp way of restarting in another OS.

Now Dan can complete his cunning triple boot minimac project :)

  1. Doh! you gave away my secret project! That’s ok, that’s just the tip of the iceberg with that rig…

  2. What they need is a USB-powered cube that can sit on the desktop, and you can rotate it, and the OS rotates with it. Maybe have some OLED screens on it that mirror the OS. Cool!

  3. Thats really cool, I agree with The Technocrat, you can imagine sitting at your desk with a Mac Mini kinda thing but made by a different company which you can just switch your screens, can you think how much money they would make!?

  4. I think that is one of the poorest posts i’ve done yet, looking back at it.

I had to do it in pure html, im still having problems with the wysiwyg editor. I think we should switch back to the default one, i seem to get on best with that both here and on fishbitt.

  5. Technocrat, I think we can all guess exactly what you are planning… that or I asked Atariboy who informed me on AIM. :P I wouldn’t go into it in detail, but yea I thought it was a interestng idea and look forward to seeing it being put into action

  6. That atariboy…grrrr

yeah, I like my rubix-cube type USB peripheral. I’m imagining a Logitech Quickcam Orbit base, and a billiards-ball sized illuminated cube illuminating the different OS’s on each side… maybe system stats on the top? heat, etc…

  7. Hi there, just doing some browsing for my Logitech website. Lots of information out there. Not quite what I was looking for, but nice site. Have a great day.
