I wouldn’t worry about it too much – AMD’s pretty good about staying with their sockets for more than a few years. When did the Socket A Athlons come out, ’99? You can still get a 2Ghz Sempron 7 years later in this format.

I hate it when they change the formats too, but unless you want to, you don’t *have* to be on the latest stuff to get halfway-decent performance.

gpilot – I’m a little with you on this one in that I’m hoping that AMD continue to bring everything out on both socket AM2 and 939 for a while to come.

(Especially since I only got that socket 939 6 months ago…) At least I don’t have the graphics card issue cos I went with PCI-e anyway

Maybe too much to hope for though!

Sorry for the bad language but I’m very happy with my AGP based ATI 9800Pro and my 2Gb DDR RAM.
I just need a new processor. Why the hell do I have to pay AGAIN???? for RAM and new graphics card????

I’ve been in the 100% AMD camp with you for a while now.

The compatibility thing is still a bit of a hangover from the K6 vs Pentium 1 days where there were a few things a little sketchy – but certainly not any more!

I’ve loved AMD ever since they came up with the 64-bit line. I have an AMd64 pc that runs Ubuntu, and for some odd reason, I can’t seem to want to use my seemingly good and more powerful p4…

Though the reign has to end. I need a laptop. and AMD is quite week in that segment of the market.
