When covers are better than the originals

I’m seriously starting to love the internet these days.

Check this guy out. He took ‘Hey Ya’ by Outkast, and instead of yelling, actually sings. And he’s good! Now, I don’t have anything against any type of music. In fact, I listen to everything from salsa to 70′s disco. What I like about this guy is that it’s a perfect example of the internet facilitating a large audience for someone with talent, contrasted with a hit that was churned out by the corporate machine. The Long Tail, indeed.

Anyone know of any other examples of covers surpassing the originals?

    The cover of Slobberbone’s “Your Excuse” that a colleague of mine plays is, in my opinion, a lot better than the original. Of course, his isn’t that widely known of.

    You’ll have to find he original yourself if you want to compare them, but his can be found at http://www.purevolume.com/stevemorgan.

    (Not that it amtters hugely, but the 25th June live version there was recorded at a local festival I helped run.)

    Heh, definitely an awesome cover, but I personally prefer the original, but that’s mostly due to my taste in music. :)

    i heard a cover of crazy by ray lamontagne on radio2, similar to the video its just him and a guitar, and surpasses the original, if anyone wants it i can send it out.

    James Walsh from Starsailor did an excellent acoustic rendition of S Club 7′s “Don’t Stop Movin’” a while back on Radio 1.

    Don’t have a copy to hand though :(

    Seriously, I was as surprised as y’all were when I accidentally caused that earthquake. Alls I was doin’ was lookin’ for a new goldfish at the pet store, ‘cause all my other ones are frickin’ stupid so I just flushed ‘em down the crapper. LOL! But I looked at that damn fish tank for literally like a hundred years, and I couldn’t find any goldfish there that I wanted; all of ‘em looked mean, and the last thing I need is some pissed off goldfish in my home, giving me drama.
